In Memory of Chris

Posted by [email protected] on 31 May, 2019 at 9:00 Comments comments (0)

The Chelsea Showcase trophies were sponsored this year in memory of a special man, Chris who was the most dedicated Chelsea supporter who would of loved this weekend, and it is an honour that South East Gulls not only winning one of these throphies but would like to share this blog about Chris. Written kindly by his devoted wife Sue.

Back in time a young boy with spina bifida was taken on his dads shoulders to watch the parade of Chelsea Footballers with the 1970 FA Cup. From there on he became hooked on football and anything to do with Chelsea. Once while waiting for a bus in his match gear to get to a match a player stopped and gave him a lift – cannot see that happening today, but back then times were different. Just wish I could remember who it was.

Being disabled never stopped him. He learned to drive with hand controls so he could get to matches easier. At the old Chelsea stadium he even parked by the side of the pitch. Being a fan for years he knew most of the stewards, administration staff and numerous others.

Chris’s love for Chelsea never faltered. Even in the darkest hours he was there. Rain, snow, thunder, nothing stopped him. The day after he died I actually went to Chelsea in my wedding dress ( we had to bring the wedding forward )so his friends could see the dress they would have seen and sat in his seat. Chelsea TV did come over to speak to me but for obvious reasons got a bit tongue tied. The two mascots Stamford and Bridget must have heard what I had said and both came over and gave me a hug. At half time they even announced Chris had passed away on the loud speaker system - all around me clapped. I believe they have never done that before for a supporter.

Chris inspired not only an author but a playwright as well, both book and play published.

(Mark's Wheelchair Adventures and Stronger than Superman)

Chris was an inspiration to me and anyone else who knew him. He never ever in all the time I knew him let his disability stand in his way or let anything get to him or get him down…… Unless of course Chelsea lost!

Forever our hero and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

C For Courageous

H For Humorous

R For Respectable

I For Individual

S For Strong

Wow what an amazing weekend we had 25th 26th May 2019, we took our u13's and adults to compete in the Chelsea Showcase weekend. Our u13s played fantastic , it was a joy to watch them, at Chelseas training ground at Cobham , they won every single game with proud and ease. They went through into the final and coming away with the Shield Trophy!!!! Fantastic.  Our adults  played on the Sunday at home of Chelsea, yes Stamford Bridge, what an honour that was, they enjoyed every minute of that too. They played so well, went to the semi finals but unfortunatly were knocked out on penatlies.

We appreciate everyone that has helped us and supported us at our fundraising events.
